Wirt County is 2-8 against St. Marys since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Tigers will challenge the Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. Wirt County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Wirt County fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Wahama on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 4-3.

Wyatt Boice put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Boice was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double. He is becoming a predictor of Wirt County's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 3-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).
Boice wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alex Bevel, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI.
Poca hit St. Marys with a five-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blue Devils took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dots.
Like Wirt County, St. Marys also got a great game from a two-way player: Casey Burkhammer. He struck out 13 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Burkhammer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kyle Bullman made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
St. Marys' record now sits at 9-9. As for Wirt County, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wirt County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Marys struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wirt County couldn't quite finish off St. Marys when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 5-3. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
