Softball Recap: Seven Lakes' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Jordan, Seven Lakes was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Paetow Panthers. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Payton Rich made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).

Rich wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cielle Whittaker, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. That run was Whittaker's first of the season.

Seven Lakes' victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-5. As for Paetow, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.

Seven Lakes and Paetow could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Seven Lakes (ranked 638th) will meet Mayde Creek (ranked 302nd) at 6:15 p.m. on March 18th. Seven Lakes is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. Meanwhile, Paetow will face off against Katy at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday down 437 places (442 vs. 5). Seven Lakes has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
