Basketball Game Preview: Geneva Panthers vs. Straughn Tigers

Geneva and Straughn are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Geneva Panthers take on the Straughn Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Geneva has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Straughn will arrive with three straight victories.

Geneva's tournament run continued when they took on Providence Christian on Friday. Geneva had to suffer through a 72-45 loss at the hands of Providence Christian. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 366th, while the Eagles are ranked 74th).

Meanwhile, Straughn posted their biggest win since November 18th last Friday. Everything went their way against Wicksburg as Straughn made off with a 54-32 victory.

Geneva better keep an eye on Clark Jordan. He was instrumental in Straughn's win, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Driver, who posted ten points and seven rebounds.

Straughn smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Geneva's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Straughn, their win bumped their record up to 7-11.
