Volleyball Recap: Schalmont Takes a Loss

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Schalmont and Voorheesville have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Sabres lost 3-0 to the Blackbirds. If the Sabres were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Blackbirds when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Voorheesville scored at least 17 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-21, 25-17.

Sandy Cirilla paced Schalmont's offense, picking up six kills. Cirilla got some help from Olivia Dagostino and her ten assists. Dagostino also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Brooke Holubek, each putting up three.

Schalmont's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Voorheesville, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Schalmont is set to square off against their familiar foe Ichabod Crane at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Voorheesville will face off against rival Mohonasen at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
