Baseball Game Preview: Lucerne Valley Mustangs vs. Victor Valley Christian Royals

Lucerne Valley hasn't had much luck against Victor Valley Christian recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will take on the Royals at 3:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Lucerne Valley fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Palmdale Academy Charter School on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mustangs have suffered since March 19, 2024.

Raul Gonzalez and Leon Willoughby stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Willoughby went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Jude Hendricks also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Victor Valley Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 10-1 to Academy for Academic Excellence.

Lucerne Valley's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Victor Valley Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

Lucerne Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Victor Valley Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 9-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
