Football Recap: Manual Arts Comes Up Short

Manual Arts was the 42-7 winner over Jefferson when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Toilers had to suffer through a 56-24 loss at the hands of the Democrats. The Toilers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.

Despite the loss, Manual Arts still got an impressive performance from Nasir Newell, who threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 34 yards. A healthy portion of Newell's aerial production (100 yards to be exact) went to Jordan Arnold.

A big part of Jefferson's win came down to the chemistry between Joey Manning and his top target Nelsean Farmer. Manning threw for 145 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 passes while Farmer gained 174 total yards and two touchdowns. Farmer didn't just play on offense: he also made five total tackles and defended one pass.

This is the second loss in a row for Manual Arts and nudges their season record down to 4-6. As for Jefferson, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Manual Arts will take on Chavez at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. As for Jefferson, they will square off against Canoga Park at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. The Democrats will be up against the Hunters' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
