Preview: Monroe Redhawks vs. Parkwood Wolf Pack
Monroe has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Parkwood Wolf Pack at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, Monroe's game was all tied up 17-17 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 50-37 victory over West Stanly.
Monroe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bryson Simpkins led the charge by scoring nine points. Kaegan Chambers was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Parkwood had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top against Anson by a score of 74-65. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Parkwood's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron McKinney, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. McKinney is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last ten games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Malik Paulhill, who scored 25 points.
Monroe now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Parkwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season.
Monroe skirted past Parkwood 53-51 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Does Monroe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Parkwood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
