League recap: Trinity Christian tops Tampa Catholic to extend winning streak

3A District 1 recap December 3, 2013

Trinity Christian extended the longest winning streak in 3A District 1 this week by beating Tampa Catholic, 20-11. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Conquerors.

Trinity Christian made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 268 from 321. The advance stemmed from a 20-11 victory over the Crusaders last week.

Verlon Dorminey's team's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jaquez Riles threw for 56 yards and Isaiah Ford had 32 yards receiving. On the ground Jalin Buie chipped in 131 yards. Michael Clark helped Trinity Christian's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 24 yards.

The Conquerors' dynamic duo of Riles and Ford proved tough for Tampa Catholic to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Clark helped Trinity Christian's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 24 yards.

Buie was a passing and rushing force as Trinity Christian beat Mike Gregory's team. Buie's key target this week was Ford, who caught 3 passes for 32 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Providence's Augie Debiase and Tristyn Bennett have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Debiase has thrown for 1,760 yards this season, while Bennett has 40 catches for 720 yards. Buie from the Conquerors leads the league in rushing with 1,429 yards.

Chris Barr broke off the longest rushing play in the league this week with a 67-yard run against the Crusaders. Barr finished the game with 77 yards on the ground as Trinity Christian bested Tampa Catholic.
