Basketball Recap: Reagan Cheney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Beloit over Phillipsburg

Beloit was the 42-29 winner over Phillipsburg when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Beloit Trojans took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Phillipsburg Panthers on Thursday.

Beloit's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reagan Cheney, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards. Cheney is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games she's played. Cassandra Thompson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Beloit smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Beloit has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Phillipsburg, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Coming up, Beloit will square off against Southeast of Saline at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Phillipsburg, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Panthers challenge the Cardinals on Tuesday.
