Basketball Recap: Omaha South Takes a Loss

Omaha South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against the Lincoln Northeast Rockets, falling 97-71. The Packers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rockets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.

Despite the loss, Omaha South still got an impressive performance from Lou Hodoly, who dropped a double-double on 37 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave Hodoly a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jai Villafuerte-spears, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Lincoln Northeast got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lazerek Houston out in front who went 8 for 15 en route to 22 points and five boards. The game was Houston's third in a row with at least 19 points. Another player making a difference was Grant Fredericks, who went 7 of 14 to rack up 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Omaha South's defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Lincoln Northeast, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Omaha South will host Millard West at 7:15 p.m. on February 14th. As for Lincoln Northeast, they will look to defend their home court on February 14th against Papillion-LaVista South at 7:15 p.m.
