Basketball Recap: iMater Charter Takes a Loss

IMater Charter was the 87-61 winner over Downtown Doral when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The iMater Charter Knights took a blow against the Downtown Doral Dolphins on Wednesday, falling 78-51. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, iMater Charter had strong showings from Alain Alvarez, who went 5 of 9 en route to 13 points and three steals, and Jason Dominguez, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points and eight rebounds.

Downtown Doral got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Paolo Guerrero out in front who went 6 of 14 on his way to 22 points along with five boards and five steals. Those 22 points gave Guerrero a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Giancarlo Romero, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards.

IMater Charter now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Downtown Doral, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. IMater Charter won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mater Biscayne Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Downtown Doral, they will venture away from home to face off against Mater Brickell Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Downtown Doral is facing Mater Brickell Academy at the right time seeing as Mater Brickell Academy is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
