Football Recap: Newton Eagles vs. Mt. Carmel Golden Aces
Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 30-8 to the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 49-7 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2023.
It was another big night for Elliott Acree, who rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry for Mt. Carmel. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: Acree now rushed for 109 or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.
Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Mt. Carmel, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton will face off against Richland County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Richland County will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Newton surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mt. Carmel, they will take on Paris at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
