Baseball Recap: Cumberland Takes Down Ranked Cranston West

Cumberland faced Cranston West in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Clippers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Falcons. The victory continues a trend for the Clippers in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won four in a row.

Liam Monahan spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aidan Ray was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josh Lyon, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Cumberland's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Cranston West, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Cumberland will welcome Lincoln at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cranston West, they will face off against South Kingstown at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
