Martinsville and Fleming are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Colonels at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Martinsville has given up an average of 14.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Having struggled with nine defeats in a row, Martinsville turned things around against George Washington on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Eagles 15-14. Considering the Bulldogs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Kelin Reid and Elijah Saunders did most of the damage at the plate: Reid went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Saunders went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Saunders a new career-high. Eland Blankenbaker was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Fleming was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 35th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 12-2 to Patrick Henry.

Fleming saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aronde Phillips, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases and two runs.

Fleming's defeat dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Martinsville, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-9.

Everything went Martinsville's way against Fleming in their previous matchup back in March, as Martinsville made off with a 19-2 victory. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colonels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
