Bear Bryant's great grandson Paul Tyson commits to Alabama

The 4-star junior quarterback said he's staying home to play for the Crimson Tide.

4-star quarterback Paul Tyson picked Alabama out of 18 offers.


He seemed destined to pick Alabama, but Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, Ala.) junior Paul Tyson said it wasn't so simple.

The highly touted quarterback and great grandson of 'Bama legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant announced today on Twitter that he picked the Crimson Tide over 17 other offers, including LSU, Kentucky, Notre Dame, USC and Michigan.

Roll Tide.

"I have enjoyed the recruiting process and really tried to be open minded," he wrote of his decision. "It came down to coach (Brent) Key, coach (Dan) Enos and coach (Nick) Saban asking me to commit now. I felt the same calling that my great grandfather had when he was asked to come home.



"Alabama is home and that's where I want to spend my college career."

Ranked the seventh-best pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2019 by 247Sports, the 6-foot-4, 215-pound Tyson completed 238-of-336 last season for 3,392 and 36 touchdowns. He threw just four interceptions.

Tyson is the first quarterback out of high school in almost two years who has committed to Alabama.
