Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Manvel

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Manvel ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Alvin Yellowjackets 4-2. The win was familiar territory for the Mavericks, who have now won three games in a row.

Madison Martinez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits.

At the plate, Kaylah Hopkins and Karsyn Carrier did most of the damage at the plate: Hopkins went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs, while Carrier went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Hopkins a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Skylar Frederick, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Manvel's victory bumped their record up to 12-10. As for Alvin, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-12-1.

Coincidentally, Manvel and Alvin will both be playing Dawson the next time they take the field. The Yellowjackets will head out to face the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Mavericks will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
