The Orange Beach Makos will head out to square off against the Daphne Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Orange Beach is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Orange Beach heads into the matchup have just come up short against nationally ranked Thompson (Orange Beach was ranked third at the time). The Makos fell 4-0 to the Warriors on Saturday. The Makos' loss signaled the end of their 28-game winning streak.
KG Favors spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, Orange Beach saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katie King, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Daphne waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Pirates 7-1. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 games by six runs or more this season.
Victoria Moten made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, Abby J Johnson was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Karsyn Barnett was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Daphne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Daphne's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 31-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Orange Beach, their defeat dropped their record down to 28-2.
Both Orange Beach and Daphne just can't seem to miss. The Makos have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Daphne struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Orange Beach suffered a grim 16-5 defeat to Daphne in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Can the Makos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
