Basketball Game Preview: Chamberlain Storm vs. Weeki Wachee Hornets

The Chamberlain Storm will square off against the Weeki Wachee Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Chamberlain heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 47-46 to Robinson.

Chamberlain might have lost, but man, Ellayna Stephens was a machine: she posted 31 points and four steals. Stephens' evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Dejesus, who scored 11 points.

Meanwhile, Weeki Wachee waltzed into their contest on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They walked away with a 48-38 win over the Buccaneers.

Weeki Wachee's win came from a few key players Chamberlain will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Joelys Rodriquez, who put up 18 points along with seven assists and five steals. She has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last five times she's played. Reese Halter was another key player, dropping a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Weeki Wachee's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.5 points over those games. As for Chamberlain, their loss dropped their record down to 19-6.

Chamberlain might still be hurting after the 47-24 defeat they got from Weeki Wachee when the teams last played back in January of 2018. Can Chamberlain avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
