Basketball Recap: Marion-Franklin Red Devils vs. Briggs Bruins
Marion-Franklin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 58-52 heartbreaker at the hands of the Briggs Bruins. The Red Devils were up 24-9 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Briggs can attribute much of their success to Romans Ward, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Those 24 points gave Ward a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Troy Johnson, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 12 points and three steals.
Marion-Franklin's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Briggs, their win bumped their record up to 4-15.
Marion-Franklin wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, an 81-55 loss against Walnut Ridge on the 4th. As for Briggs, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-29 defeat against South on the 4th.
