Baseball Game Preview: Perrysburg Yellow Jackets vs. Maumee Panthers

Perrysburg has gone 9-1 against Maumee recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets will host the Panthers at 11:00 a.m. The last four games Perrysburg has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Friday, Perrysburg didn't have quite enough to beat Ottawa Hills and fell 4-3.

Perrysburg got a good showing from Preston Faris, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Faris has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brayden Heitmeyer and Ryan Rettig stepped up to the plate in a big way. Heitmeyer went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Rettig went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Heitmeyer is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Meanwhile, Maumee got themselves on the board against Bowsher on Friday, but Bowsher never followed suit. They came out on top against the BlueRacers by a score of 4-0.

Maumee has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Perrysburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-8.

Perrysburg skirted past Maumee 4-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Yellow Jackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
