Basketball Recap: Chaparral's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Moapa Valley wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Chaparral, they should've done a better job of containing Bryan Montemayor. The Chaparral Cowboys walked away with a 52-40 victory over the Moapa Valley Pirates on Friday thanks in part to Montemayor, who went 8 of 11 en route to 20 points. He has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played.

Izayah Thomas was another key player, putting up seven points and five steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in steals.

Defeat or not, Moapa Valley got some senior leadership from Bryson Walker and Brigham Whitmore. Walker dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Whitmore posted eight points and seven boards.

The win made it two in a row for Chaparral and bumps their season record up to 10-8. As for Moapa Valley, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-11.

Chaparral has already played their next game, a 61-57 defeat against Legacy on the 14th. As for Moapa Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 59-43 victory against Eldorado on the 13th.
