Softball Game Preview: Sodus Spartans vs. Lyons Lions

The Sodus Spartans will take on the Lyons Lions at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.

Clyde-Savannah hit Sodus with a six-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans fell just short of the Golden Eagles by a score of 10-9. The contest marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Meanwhile, Lyons put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Finney as they made off with a 15-3 win. That's two games straight that the Lions have won by exactly 12 runs.

Keira Weber was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Kamryn Bonnell was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Peyton Bonnell was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Lyons was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .543. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .407 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Lyons' victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. As for Sodus, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Sodus suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Lyons in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
