Basketball Game Preview: Malvern Hornets vs. Bishop Rosecrans Bishops

The Malvern Hornets will head out to challenge the Bishop Rosecrans Bishops at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Malvern will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Last Friday, Malvern didn't have too much trouble with Tuscarawas Central Catholic as they won 66-48. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while the Saints are ranked 767th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Bishop Rosecrans came up short against Wellington School on Saturday and fell 60-50.

Malvern will need to focus on slowing down Tyler Bernett, one of several Bishop Rosecrans players who made an impact when they last played. He dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 boards. Bernett is becoming a predictor of Bishop Rosecrans' success: when he posts at least ten rebounds the team is 13-2 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kohen Harris, who posted 11 points and four steals.

Malvern's win was their 25th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-3. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.6 points over those games. As for Bishop Rosecrans, their loss dropped their record down to 15-5.

Malvern won a match that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in March of 2017, slipping by Bishop Rosecrans 56-55. Will Malvern repeat their success, or does Bishop Rosecrans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
