Volleyball Preview: Meridian Wildcats vs. Lamar Raiders

Meridian hasn't had much luck against Lamar recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wildcats will head out to challenge the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. Meridian is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Meridian challenged Quitman on Thursday. The Wildcats walked away with a 3-1 win over the Panthers.

Meanwhile, Lamar made easy work of Simpson Academy on Thursday and carried off a 3-0 victory.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Lamar took every set by at least 14 points. The final score came out to 25-6, 25-11, 25-8.

Meridian better focus on containing Olivia Miles and Rylee Schimelpfening as the pair were huge in Lamar's win. Miles had 12 digs and seven aces, while Schimelpfening had seven digs and six kills. Schimelpfening is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in each of the last 33 games she's played dating back to last season.

Lamar was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 18 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in 14 consecutive contests.
