Softball Game Preview: New Ulm Cathedral Greyhounds vs. Springfield Tigers

New Ulm Cathedral is a perfect 10-0 against Springfield since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Greyhounds will look to defend their home field against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (New Ulm Cathedral has seven straight wins, Springfield has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

New Ulm Cathedral's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart. The result was nothing new for the Greyhounds, who have now won six games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Springfield's offense. They came up short against Windom on Thursday, falling 10-0.

New Ulm Cathedral pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Springfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.

New Ulm Cathedral was able to grind out a solid victory over Springfield when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 8-5. Do the Greyhounds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
