High school basketball: Nation’s No. 1 prospect Tyran Stokes withdraws from Notre Dame less than two weeks before season opener

Knight tip-off 2025-26 season Nov. 18 but will be without star forward.

Tyran Stokes, the No. 1 basketball player in the Class of 2026, has withdrawn from Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) according to Tarek Fattal.

Notre Dame athletic director Alec Moss confirmed that Stokes is moving on in a press release.

According to Fattal, Stokes was facing disciplinary issues at the school and had altercations with students.

The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 21.0 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game as a junior, posting 17 double-doubles. Notre Dame reached the Open Division state semifinals.

Stokes was set to lead the No. 2 team in the preseason MaxPreps Top 25 rankings alongside Navorro Bowman Jr. and Zachary White before the announcement Wednesday.

Prior to Notre Dame, Stokes spent his first two years of high school at Prolific Prep and was the No. 1 player in his class when the initial 247Sports Composite was released on Oct. 11, 2023.



Notre Dame is scheduled to open the season Nov. 18 at Taft (Woodland Hills).
