Softball Game Preview: Bryan Station Defenders vs. Eastern Eagles

The Bryan Station Defenders will venture away from home to take on the Eastern Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Bryan Station has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 28.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Bryan Station's offense. They lost 10-0 to Harrison County on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Eastern got the win against DuPont Manual on Wednesday by a conclusive 9-2. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Kelsey Davis made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last six games. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Alex Wagner was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Sweasy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs.

Eastern is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-11 record this season. As for Bryan Station, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-15.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Bryan Station hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Eastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Bryan Station suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Eastern in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Defenders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
