Recap: Newton Eagles vs. Rochester Rockets
It was a good run, but the Newton Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 65-44 walloping at the hands of Rochester. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Newton came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Rochester is ranked 295th).
Henry Buecker was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with three steals for Rochester. Buecker continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Eli Cox was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five assists.
Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Rochester, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton is on the road again on Saturday and play against Marion at 5:00 p.m. on January 6th. As for Rochester, they will square off against Decatur Eisenhower at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
