Basketball Recap: Mercy Prep Academy's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Mercy Prep Academy waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Excel Christian Academy Eagles, sneaking past 72-69. For the Royals, this counts as revenge for the 78-54 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February.

Mercy Prep Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dylan Baker, who posted 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists. What's more, Baker also racked up five steals, the most he's had since back in February. Eli Lawson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten boards.

Baker wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Mercy Prep Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Mercy Prep Academy pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Excel Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mercy Prep Academy will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Excel Christian Academy on January 10, 2025. Excel Christian Academy will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against Christian Home Educators at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
