Softball Recap: Springfield Renaissance Takes a Loss

If Springfield Renaissance was riding high fresh off their 32-23 takedown of Putnam Vo-Tech on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Springfield Renaissance came up short against the Pope Francis Prep Cardinals on Thursday, falling 35-4. The loss continues a trend for Springfield Renaissance in their meetings with Pope Francis Prep: they've now lost six in a row.

Springfield Renaissance saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jocelyn Pena, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs. Pena is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Mariah Dandridge was another, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

Springfield Renaissance's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Pope Francis Prep, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield Renaissance will challenge Commerce at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.6 runs per game on average), something Springfield Renaissance will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pope Francis Prep, they will face off against Putnam Vo-Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in the Cardinals' favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while the Beavers have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
