Basketball Game Preview: Unatego Spartans vs. Deposit-Hancock

The Unatego Spartans will challenge Deposit-Hancock at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Unatego is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Oxford Academy just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They lost to the Blackhawks on the road by a 65-46 margin.

Meanwhile, Deposit-Hancock suffered their biggest defeat since January 5, 2024 two weeks ago. They had to suffer through a 100-69 loss at the hands of Delaware Academy. Deposit-Hancock has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Unatego will need focus on slowing down Blake Fortunato, one of several Deposit-Hancock players who made an impact when they last played. He went 9 of 19 en route to 24 points and four steals. Fortunato's evening made it 14 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Simmons, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards.

Even though they lost, Deposit-Hancock smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 19 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Deposit-Hancock's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Unatego, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4-1.

Unatego was dealt a bruising 65-32 loss at the hands of Deposit-Hancock in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Unatego avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
