Basketball Recap: Kings Park Falls Despite Big Games from Riley Currier and Gianna Zawol

If Kings Park was riding high fresh off their 66-29 takedown of John Glenn last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Kings Park Kingsmen took a 51-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mount Sinai Mustangs. The Kingsmen were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 52-44.

Gianna Zawol and Riley Currier certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Zawol went 10 for 19 on her way to 27 points and seven rebounds, while Currier dropped a double-double on 17 boards and 11 blocks. The dominant performance gave Currier a new career-high in blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Brown, who posted five points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Kings Park smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 44 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Kings Park's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Mount Sinai, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1.

Kings Park will square off against Miller Place at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Kings Park is facing Miller Place at the right time seeing as Miller Place is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. Mount Sinai does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
