Baseball Recap: Pinecrest's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Pinecrest entered their tilt with Union Pines on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 9-2 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-1 on Wednesday.

Will Chopping made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 5.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eythan Reynolds, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Bryson Partington, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Pinecrest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Pinecrest pushed their record up to 16-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 5.5 runs. As for Union Pines, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pinecrest will welcome Central Davidson at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Patriots 3.8, the Spartans 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Union Pines, they will be playing at home against Montgomery Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
