The Central Catholic Fighting Irish are taking a road trip to take on the Maumee Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Central Catholic will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
Central Catholic took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Lumen Christi Catholic, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Fighting Irish sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Titans on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fighting Irish have posted since April 29th.

Ella Schuberg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maeley Bragg, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Coleman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Maumee, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Southview on Monday as they made off with a 17-3 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.
Hannah Ruiz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Ruiz was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Reign Hurt was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brynn Maier, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and three RBI.
Maumee pushed their record up to 15-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Central Catholic, their record now sits at 18-9.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Central Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352. However, it's not like Maumee struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Central Catholic might still be hurting after the 21-6 defeat they got from Maumee in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Fighting Irish avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
