Recap: Sahuarita Mustangs vs. Walden Grove Red Wolves
The Sahuarita Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their eighth straight loss. They suffered a tough 70-46 defeat at the hands of Walden Grove. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Sahuarita has suffered since December 13, 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Sahuarita lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nate Torres. Despite the final result, he scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Trevizo, who scored seven points.
Sahuarita struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Walden Grove posted 13 assists.
Walden Grove's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was MarQuez Tyree, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. Tyree is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Klump, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 18 rebounds.
Sahuarita has been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. As for Walden Grove, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sahuarita will challenge Douglas at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Douglas is ranked 236th, while Sahuarita is ranked 250th). As for Walden Grove, they will head out on the road to face off against Rio Rico at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
