Basketball Recap: Huntingtown Comes Up Short

Huntingtown lost against Lackey back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Huntingtown Hurricanes took a hard 79-61 fall against the Lackey Chargers. Even though they lost, the Hurricanes' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.2 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Despite the loss, Huntingtown still got an impressive performance from Brady Swann, who went 7-for-11 from beyond the arc to rack up 22 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tyson Powell, who posted four points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Huntingtown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 6.7 offensive rebounds per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 12.8.

Lackey was led to victory by Isaiah Mansaray and Malik Gordon. Mansaray went 11-for-17 en route to 32 points and four steals, while Gordon almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine assists. Gordon is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in each of the last six games he's played. Tyzon Swann was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and 13 rebounds.

Huntingtown's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Lackey, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-2.

Huntingtown has already played their next game, an 84-79 win against Chopticon on the 19th. As for Lackey, they will be taking part in a tournament against Leonardtown at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Leonardtown has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 219 points over their last three contests.
