Softball Game Preview: Springtown Porcupines vs. Decatur Eagles

Springtown is 1-9 against Decatur since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Porcupines will face off against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Springtown knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Decatur likes a good challenge.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Springtown and Castleberry have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Porcupines put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Porcupines, who have now won 12 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Reiss DeLaFuente, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Harmony Flores, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Decatur was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eagle Mountain. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Springtown pushed their record up to 16-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Decatur, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.

Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Springtown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Decatur struggles in that department as they've averaged .397. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Springtown came up short against Decatur in their previous matchup back in March, falling 12-7. Can the Porcupines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
