Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Davion Tan-Nguyen and Xavier Marflak Lead St. Edward to Victory

While St. Edward didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Garfield Heights Bulldogs on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won three matchups in a row.

St. Edward walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the first set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-9, 25-18, 25-19.

Leading St. Edward to victory were Xavier Marflak and Davion Tan-Nguyen. Marflak had eight assists and three aces, while Tan-Nguyen had six digs and three assists. Landon Bosley also deserves some recognition as he had his first kill of the season.

They weren't the only good server: St. Edward was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 16 aces. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their ace total in three consecutive contests.

St. Edward's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Garfield Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Looking ahead, St. Edward will take on Stow-Munroe Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Garfield Heights, they have already played their next game, a 3-0 win against Shaker Heights on the 7th.
