Softball Recap: Prairie Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Linn, Prairie was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the WF West Bearcats by a score of 10-5. For the Falcons, this counts as revenge for the 9-3 win the Bearcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2016.

Mackenzie Moore was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 5-for-5. Those five hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Prairie let Kayla Scholl and Kellie Cady run wild. Scholl scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5, while Cady went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. What's more, Scholl posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carlie Palmer, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Prairie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Prairie's record now sits at 4-2. As for WF West, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 4-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Prairie will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Camas at 4:30 p.m. on April 8. Prairie's pitchers better be ready for this one: Camas has averaged an impressive 11.7 runs per game this season. As for WF West, they will welcome Shelton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. This will be WF West's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
