Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Zie'l Ratchford and Lauren Crosland Lead Spring Valley to Victory

Spring Valley hadn't done well against Westwood recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Spring Valley Vikings took down the Westwood Redhawks 64-48. The Vikings pushed the score to 55-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Redhawks cut but never quite recovered from.

Spring Valley was led to victory by Lauren Crosland and Zie'L Ratchford. Crosland went 12 of 21 en route to 29 points, while Ratchford went 8 for 16 on her way to 19 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. With that strong performance, Crosland is now averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Chisholm, who posted five points along with five assists and five steals.

Westwood's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Aneya Britt, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten boards, and Amari Alexander, who put up nine points. That was a full 45.8% of Westwood's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points.

Spring Valley's victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Westwood, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-14.

Spring Valley has already played their next game (against Sumter), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Westwood will take on Lugoff-Elgin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Westwood is facing Lugoff-Elgin at the right time seeing as Lugoff-Elgin is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
