Baseball Recap: Central Catholic Takes a Loss

Central Catholic fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against North Allegheny on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 8-7. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Central Catholic got a good showing from Nate O'Leary, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. O'Leary also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Vikings are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Chase Gelpi made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ricky Zilaltis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Central Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for North Allegheny, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-4.

While Central Catholic had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
