Softball Game Preview: Tacony Academy Charter Lions vs. Penn Treaty Wolves

The Tacony Academy Charter Lions will challenge the Penn Treaty Wolves at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Tacony Academy Charter knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Penn Treaty likes a good challenge.

Tacony Academy Charter is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Olney 15-5 on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Lions with their most commanding win of the season.

Jaylene Cruz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Tacony Academy Charter got a massive performance out of Aniya Askins-Pinkney, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Askins-Pinkney is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Peters, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3.

Tacony Academy Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Penn Treaty's offense. They lost 16-0 to Prep Charter on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Wolves' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Penn Treaty now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Tacony Academy Charter, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Tacony Academy Charter beat Penn Treaty 18-14 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
