Baseball Recap: La Joya Wins Going Away Against Mcallen Memorial

La Joya barely beat McAllen Memorial the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The La Joya Coyotes blew past the McAllen Memorial Mustangs 13-5 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Coyotes in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won seven in a row.

Hunter Morales tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, La Joya got a massive performance out of Rolando Solis, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Solis is becoming a predictor of La Joya's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Matthew Ortiz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

La Joya always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McAllen Memorial only posted an OBP of .375.

La Joya's record is now 8-4. As for McAllen Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.

Coming up, La Joya and McAllen will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. McAllen's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so La Joya's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for McAllen Memorial, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Weslaco at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The last three games Weslaco has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
