Basketball Recap: Centerville Comes Up Short

Centerville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 64-33 defeat at the hands of the Covenant Christian Academy Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 51-22 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Centerville lost, don't look at D?Irieyah Mitchell. Despite the final result, she shot 5-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 54.5% of Centerville's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Ella Billiot was another key player, putting up six points.

Centerville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Covenant Christian Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Centerville will challenge Gueydan at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Centerville is facing Gueydan at the right time seeing as Gueydan is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Covenant Christian Academy, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Covenant Christian Academy Lions challenge the East St. John Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. East St. John will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Covenant Christian Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
