Recap: Mooresville Pioneers vs. Bloomington North Cougars
The Mooresville Pioneers had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.8 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Thursday. They wrapped up 2023 with a 51-32 win over Bloomington North. Given Mooresville's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Bloomington North is ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rachel Harshman was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Mooresville's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalyn Bunch, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Bloomington North lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mia Robbennolt. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
Mooresville's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Bloomington North, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.
Mooresville is on the road again on Thursday and play against Evansville North at 4:30 p.m. on December 28, 2023. Evansville North has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 373 points over their last six contests. Bloomington North will finish 2023 at home by hosting Perry Meridian at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
