Basketball Game Preview: Houston Christian Mustangs vs. St. John's Mavericks

The Houston Christian Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the St. John's Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Houston Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matches.

Last Tuesday, Houston Christian got the win against Kinkaid by a conclusive 59-35. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Falcons are ranked 634th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. John's has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-55 heartbreaker at the hands of The Woodlands Christian Academy.

Houston Christian pushed their record up to 18-12 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.7 points. As for St. John's, their loss dropped their record down to 20-10.

Houston Christian suffered a grim 77-53 defeat to St. John's when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can Houston Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
