Softball Recap: Woodridge Takes a Loss

Woodridge extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-18 in the process. They came up short against the Manchester Panthers, falling 13-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 12-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.

Woodridge saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julia Elkins, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Elkins is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

As for Manchester, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4. Considering they have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Manchester's side, Rachel Baker made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Baker was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 12 games.

In other batting news, Manchester let Lilly Konen and Alli Hodgkinson run wild. Konen went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Hodgkinson went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most runs Hodgkinson has posted over her last 12 contests. A Wayman also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Woodridge will welcome Barberton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs are facing the Magics at the right time seeing as the Magics are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Manchester, they will host Canton South at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
