Baseball Game Preview: St. Augustine Yellow Jackets vs. Ponte Vedra Sharks

The St. Augustine Yellow Jackets are taking a road trip to face off against the Ponte Vedra Sharks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: St. Augustine has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Ponte Vedra will arrive with four straight victories.

St. Augustine lost 15-1 to Lincoln on Saturday.

St. Augustine saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaiden Blakney, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Ponte Vedra earned a 5-1 win over Sandalwood on Wednesday.

Storm Lickliter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Grady Hartman was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Steele Lickliter also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Ponte Vedra always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Ponte Vedra's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for St. Augustine, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.

St. Augustine skirted past Ponte Vedra 8-6 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Augustine since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
