Softball Preview: Lee County Yellow Jackets vs. Union Pines Vikings
Lee County is 0-10 against Union Pines since April of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Lee County Yellow Jackets will head out on the road to take on the Union Pines Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Lee County can't be to happy about their upcoming road game considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home on Tuesday. They lost 18-5 to Jordan-Matthews. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.
McKayla Mcdougald made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Imani Chubbs, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Union Pines was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Gray's Creek, falling 14-5.
Kileigh Cameron was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run. Cameron is crushing it when it comes to home runs: she's launched at least one every time she's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Haven Patterson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Even though they lost, Union Pines hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
