Baseball Game Preview: Vernon Hills Cougars vs. Maine West Warriors

For the second straight game, Vernon Hills will face off against Maine West. The Cougars will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Warriors at 4:45 p.m.

On Tuesday, Vernon Hills didn't have quite enough to beat Maine West and fell 5-4.

For Maine West's part, they got a great performance from Konrad Dudzik as he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Dudzik has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Perish Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April. Julian Delao was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Vernon Hills dropped their record down to 9-20 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Maine West, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-18.
